Operations

A consortium of health organizations is operating the hub. The consortium, initiated by Kaiser Permanente, includes Adventist Health, the California Medical Association, Dignity Health, and Futuro Health. California Primary Care Association will also be working with the consortium to ensure broad equitable access to the sites through its member federally qualified community health centers. In addition, the American Red Cross has provided its expertise on mass site planning.

Who is working at the hub?

Kaiser Permanente and qualified contract staff will operate the Cal Poly Pomona site. It may be that consortium partners will staff a vaccination pod in the future.

Number of vaccinations available:

The site will start on a small scale, offering approximately 500 to 1,000 appointments in the first days and ramping up the number of appointments and vaccinations each day. The hub expects to start with four vaccination “pods” that can stage 48 vaccinations stations. There is space to expand to six pods in total and the potential to do up to 10,000 vaccinations a day. The number of daily appointments is contingent on the number of secured doses of vaccine.

Which vaccine is given?

Cal Poly Pomona is not managing the supply and distribution of the vaccine, so we don’t have that information. The health providers operating the hub, led by Kaiser Permanente, are making those decisions.

Is this site being run by the State of California or the County of Los Angeles?

No, this site is an effort by a consortium of health care organizations to further contribute to the goal of vaccinating as many Californians as quickly as possible. Kaiser Permanente has taken the lead for this site development and is the managing entity. The consortium is coordinating with the State of California and the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health.

Where else is the consortium opening vaccination sites?

The consortium is exploring the possibility of several other large sites in Southern and Northern California. No decisions have been finalized for other locations. Decisions will be contingent on vaccine supply and other determining factors.
