SEMINAR: Jason Foat [HERE/Nokia]
Revenge of the NURBS - an Intro to B-Splines
May 1, 2014 10:50 AM to May 1, 2014 12:00 PM at Building 8, Room 241
Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines (NURBS) are everywhere! Useful primarily in computer graphics applications such as CAD and vector graphics, they are a motivating example of B-Splines. These powerful functions have found myriad uses in applied mathematics, and recently, and very profoundly, in molecular physics. We will use a computer graphics application of NURBS, interactive drawing of parameterized curves, to inform a discussion of B-Splines and the overlap in methodologies between physics and other realms of applied mathematics.
