Veterans Resource Center Hosts Annual Every Day is Veterans Day

April 17, 2020

Each year, the Veterans Resource Center hosts its annual Every Day is Veterans Day event to welcome prospective student veterans to campus to showcase opportunities at Cal Poly Pomona. In previous years, Every Day is Veterans Day consisted of students and their families spending the day with VRC staff learning about life as a Bronco. President Coley kicks off the event with a University Welcome and students hear from CPP alumni, along with a student veteran that shared their Cal Poly Pomona experiences. At the conclusion of the event, students enjoy a catered lunch while networking with various CPP departments and faculty.

This year, April 17, 2020, the VRC put Cal Poly Pomona’s “Learn by Doing” motto into practice by hosting its first virtual Every Day is Veterans Day event. The goal this year was to welcome prospective student veterans and to prove that with persistence and determination, students can continue their path to educational success, even during these unprecedented times. While students were unable to spend the day on campus, they were able to participate in a live question and answer session with President Soraya M. Coley, hear CPP alumnus Alejandro Navarro speak about how the VRC helped connect him with resources that led to his current career with defense contractor Raytheon, and engage with current student veterans to learn how to be successful at Cal Poly Pomona.

The VRC would like to thank those who participated in making this year’s event successful, particularly alumnus Alejandro Navarro and the student veteran panel: Eric Dunham, Nicole Lash, Robert Lenke, Jeremy Manning, and J.C. Parra.
