Early Assessment Program

Academic Preparation and Placement

The CSU requires that all entering freshmen students be evaluated in terms of their preparation to complete first-year courses in written communication and mathematics/quantitative reasoning. Applicable to Fall 2019 CSU admitted students, this evaluation will utilize the broadest set of multiple measures including standardized test scores such as the CAASPP EAP or SAT as well as high school coursework and grades. This evaluation of academic readiness is not a condition for admission to the CSU, but it is an important step for determining the best course placement for entering students. You may review the CSU Academic Preparation brochure to learn more. Students admitted to Cal Poly Pomona, with questions regarding their placement may call (909) 869-3763 or contact us via email at eap@cpp.edu

Placement is Determined by Multiple Measures

Students will register for fall classes during their in-person Orientation. During the Orientation program, advisors will assist in the appropriate English and Math course registration.  Incoming freshmen identified as requiring or benefiting from participation in the Early Start Program, which takes part in the summer, will receive communication through email. The Early Start Program will send communication to students who have submitted their Enrollment Confirmation Deposit (ECD) to Cal Poly Pomona and are required or recommended to participate starting mid-April.
