Hi! My name is Talia Marroquin, and I am an Agricultural Science major with an emphasis in Plant Science. What I enjoy best is being outdoors, exploring new places, experiencing new things, and enjoying life to the fullest, with family and friends. My family’s agricultural background, with both plants and animals, is what has encouraged my passion for agriculture. It has been at Cal Poly Pomona that I have been able to further encourage my passion. My career plans are extensive, but desire to run and own my farm at the end of the day. My experience at Cal Poly Pomona has been the best by far. I have met amazing peers and faculty throughout my journey which has encouraged my learning environment with hands on experience, “Learn by Doing”. I have had the opportunity to practice what I had been taught, work on campus, and be involved within my college. These experiences have been some of the best and I cannot wait to add more to the collection! One of these experiences has been the Peer Advisor program. This is my second year serving as a Peer Advisor and await to assist incoming and transfer students with planning their academic courses/career, and in encouraging them in their new journey just like I once began my own.

I am currently involved in Phi U, FN Forum, and am volunteering at a hospital. It has also allow me to have an insight of different perspective besides my own. When I graduate, I do plan on applying to a Physician Assistant program. Aside from school, I love traveling and relaxing at the beach. I also love meeting new people and hope to meet you soon!

Hello! My name is Ani and I’m a Dietetics student at Cal Poly Pomona. I’ve lived in Los Angeles my entire life and I absolutely love it, although I do love to travel to new places when I have the time. After attending Pasadena City College for five years, I finally discovered my passion for health and food; I couldn’t be happier here at Cal Poly studying with people that have similar interests as I do. I plan to become a Registered Dietician and be involved in community nutrition working with children, or begin my own private practice catered to girls and women who may be dealing with disordered eating. This is my second year serving as a Peer Advisor, and I’m excited to keep helping first year students adapt to the student life at Cal Poly and participating in school events and activities. When I’m not at school or work, you’ll find me hiking in the local mountains, at the beach, or trying new recipes in the kitchen.

Hello! My name is Sophie, and I am a senior at Cal Poly Pomona, studying to become a Registered Dietitian. I am a transfer student from Fullerton College, where I took my first course in nutrition and found my path in life. I am very passionate about nutritious foods and healthy living to prevent chronic diseases. After I graduate, I hope to gain experience in the field and have my own private practice. Before coming to Cal Poly, I was very nervous about attending a university and the challenges I would be faced with. Thankfully, the professors and advisors at this school helped me to get on track to graduate, and I have also made life-long friends. When I am not on campus, you can find me venturing around at Disneyland, eating the best vegan food in L.A., or country line dancing down in Fullerton. I love meeting new people and hearing different stories, and my goal as a peer advisor is to share my knowledge and experience at this school with incoming students, and lend a helping hand to anyone who needs it.

Hello! My name is Claire and I am a third year majoring in Animal Science with an emphasis in Pre-Veterinary Medicine. My career goal is to eventually become a wildlife veterinarian, as I have always been interested in exotic animals. I’ve really enjoyed my experience at Cal Poly Pomona so far, mostly due to all of the wonderful people I have met through the clubs I am in, including the Zoology and Pre-Vet club. When I’m not in school I enjoy hiking, watching movies, and spending time with my friends and family. I love learning new things and meeting new people, hence why I thought becoming a Peer Advisor would be a really valuable experience for me. I’m looking forward to meeting and helping any new incoming students and I hope that I can make their transition to Cal Poly as smooth as possible.

Hello! My name is David Frausto and I am a third year student majoring in Animal Science with an emphasis in Pre-Veterinary Studies and I aspire to become a veterinarian in the near future. I am from West Covina, California which is about 20 minutes away from Cal Poly Pomona where I live with my family, three rambunctious dogs, and a cat that adopted me. Besides being a Peer Advisor for the College of Ag, I am also part of the Pre-Veterinary Club, Zoologists of Cal Poly Club, Kellogg Honors College, etc. and I have met many great people here at Cal Poly Pomona that have made my experiences here unforgettable. If I am not on campus studying or at the College of Agriculture, I am probably working as a veterinary assistant at an animal hospital in Azusa. As a Peer Advisor, I am excited to help and guide incoming and transfer students towards both their academic and career goals. If you see me around campus don’t be afraid to say hi! I don't bite!

Hello! I am a “super” senior majoring in Animal Science with an emphasis in Pre-Veterinary Science. I am also doing a minor in Food Science. I transferred from Cypress College and always felt my calling was to go to vet school, but after transferring here and learning more about myself, I felt like exploring other paths such as the food industry or meat industry as it sparked my interest! Currently, I am working at an animal hospital as a Veterinary Assistant and in the AVS Department as a Student Assistant. If I am not working or in school, you can find me traveling to new places, trying new foods, and meeting new people. The College of Agriculture has provided me with so many resources that I am grateful to have met so many people and have had so many wonderful opportunities here in this college thanks to the encouragement of my peers and professors. I hope that being a Peer Advisor, I am able to share my same knowledge with others as well as assist in making someone else’s goals and interests become a reality!

Major: Agribusiness and Food Industry Management

Year in School: Senior

Email:  ajhuizar@cpp.edu

Hello! My name is Alan Huizar, and I am an Agribusiness & Food Industry major at Cal Poly Pomona. I grew up Pomona, and currently reside in Perris, California. I am a first-generation student and the first of my family to attend a university. In my free time I enjoy trying out new restaurants, attending baseball games, spending time with family, and going out for hikes with my 7-year old Doberman Pinscher, Rocky. My favorite experience at Cal Poly Pomona has been my involvement in clubs, while gaining friendships along the way that will last a lifetime. Although I am an Agribusiness major, I aspire on attending veterinarian school in the Mid-West, and plan on using my Agribusiness degree one day to open my own animal hospital. I discovered my passion for animals while spending time on my family’s cattle ranches back in Zacatecas, Mexico. As a Peer Advisor, I hope to inspire prospective students from the College of Agriculture in any field they wish to pursue, and in the end, be able to not only pass on my knowledge and experience, but demonstrate to students the endless possibilities that agriculture has to offer!

Hello! My name is Silke and I am an Animal Science pre-veterinary science major/microbiology minor with a dream to eventually become an equine/small animal vet. I grew up riding horses, playing tennis, and participating in film festivals in Irvine, California. I have absolutely loved my experience so far here at Cal Poly Pomona and I am beyond grateful that I chose to attend here. Thanks to CPP’s “learn by doing” motto, I have been given many incredible opportunities including working hands-on with various types of livestock, companion animals, and equipment. I am currently part of the CPP Equestrian Team (which rides at the W. K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center on campus) and the Club Tennis Team. I strongly encourage anyone to join a club or organization as you’re guaranteed to meet so many fun new friends! I chose to serve as a peer advisor because I absolutely love meeting and helping out new people. I am excited to get to know and meet all of you!
