Event Description and Details

In an increasingly interconnected world, how we appreciate our differences, and how we work collaboratively to bridge them, is critical to the success of our endeavors, and to the survival of our species. Using various examples of courageous and inspiring work being done to build peace and justice across divisions such as race, class, gender, power, religion and nationality, this presentation will offer insights on how all of us can work as partners to strengthen the common bonds of humanity, and help create a more just, peaceful, and sustainable future.

The Event will conclude with Reception.

Event is Free and Open to Public.
Email your registration before May 12, 2011.

Ocean Robbins organized a peace rally in his elementary school at age 7, and at age 16 he co-founded, and directed for 20 years YES!, a nonprofit that connects, inspires and collaborates with young change-makers in building thriving, just and sustainable ways of life for all <www.yesworld.org>.

He is author of Choices for Our Future and The Power of Partnership, and has served as a board member for Friends of the Earth, EarthSave International, and many other organizations. He is a founding member of The Turning Tide Coalition, co-founder of the Leveraging Privilege for Social Change program, and founding co-convener of Leverage Alliance. He has been honored by many organizations, including the Giraffe Project (for people who stick their necks out for what they believe), the National Alliance for Animals (The Compassionate Youth Award), and EarthSave (Volunteer of the Year Award). Utne Reader recognized him as one of 30 “Young Visionaries” under 30, and both Time and Audubon magazines chose him as being among the heroes of the new millennium. He is a 2008 recipient of the Freedom’s Flame Award, and of the national Jefferson Award for Outstanding Public Service by an Individual 35 Years or Younger.

Ocean is the grandson of Irvine Robbins, the founder of Baskin-Robbins, and the son of John Robbins-- health and sustainability activist and author of a bestseller, Diet for a New America. www.oceanrobbins.com
