Student Success Center Coordinator Recognized

NACADA: The Global Community for Academic has awarded one of five national scholarships to a member of the Cal Poly Pomona College of Business Administration's Student Success Center staff.

Pamela Adams, the center's coordinator, was announced by NACADA as a winner of the Assessment Institute Scholarship yesterday and will head to Mesa, Ariz. February 11-13 for an intesive program designed to provide participants with a foundation for assessment's critical elements, purposes, and processes.

Professionals from across the globe utilize presentations and small group discussion/working sessions to explore strategies for the assessment of academic advising programs-including establishing clear goals and outcomes and developing assessment measures for these goals and outcomes. The Assessment Institute provides participants with an understanding of the cyclical and ongoing nature of assessment.

This Institute offers participants the opportunity to work with colleagues from similar institutional types and with other professionals and experts in the fields of advising and assessment to develop comprehensive assessment plans for their respective campuses. Another objective of the Assessment Institute is to help professionals such as Adams to develop a clearer sense of academic advising programs and the process of making assessment a success.

The goal of NACADA is to promote quality academic advising and professional development of its membership to enhance the educational development of students. NACADA’s membership consists of faculty, professional advisors, administrators, counselors, and others in academic and student affairs concerned with the intellectual, personal, and vocational needs of students.
