CEIS Holds Public Forum to Discuss CPP’s Academic Master Plan

Sep Eskandari

The Office of the Provost, in partnership with the College of Education and Integrative Studies, hosted a public forum to discuss the Academic Master Plan and how it will impact the direction of the college.

The Academic Master Plan is a document that outlines the university’s mission, vision, values, goals and priorities moving forward. The plan will be used as a guide to enhance the university’s academic programs and student learning outcomes. The document is expected to be finalized by early spring semester.

“We want to ensure that the Academic Master Plan represents our collective vision and values,” said Associate Provost Sep Eskandari. “Regardless of your role, whether that be a student, staff or faculty member in a particular college, we all need to see ourselves in this plan.”

Following an overview of the Academic Master Plan, faculty, staff, students and administrators in CEIS participated in an open discussion. Some of the topics included strengthening our current graduate programs, increasing tenure-track faculty and working with area employers to ensure that CEIS students are prepared to enter the workforce.

“I strongly support increasing tenure-track faculty and diversity in faculty hiring,” said Professor Sandy Dixon, chair of the Ethnic & Women’s Studies department. “In order for us to implement programming and meet student needs, we need to have faculty in specific fields of study.”

Additional speakers suggested that we could improve in the area of instilling diversity as a core value and communicating the importance of public education and its contributions to society.

“I’m glad to see our faculty, staff and students engage in this process,” said CEIS Dean Jeff Passe. “Master plans are so important! Every time there is a new proposal regarding an academic program or major spending decision, the question is asked: 'How does that fit into the master plan?' ”
