White in 1789 published a study titled "The Natural History of Selborne" that examined the English landscape for change due to climate. Not only did writers William Wordsworth and Ralph Waldo Emerson embrace the findings of White's study, American naturalist John Muir also took notice. All three helped shaped the early environmental movement. Dewey Hall is Professor of English at Cal Poly Pomona, and the talk related to his book Romantic Naturalists, Early Environmentalists: An Ecocritical Study, 1789-1912 (Ashgate, 2014).
