Immigration Law under Trump

Immigration Law under Trump

Jan 17, 2017 12:00 PM to Jan 17, 2017 3:00 PM at BSC England Evans Board Room

With Undocumented Student Services, Sigma Tau Delta welcomes Shiu-Ming Cheer, Senior Staff Attorney and Field Coordinator for Los Angeles's National Immigration Law Center (NILC), who will be presenting on immigrant rights. This talk will cover:

  • Student visas
  • Dreamers
  • Mixed legal status families
  • DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals)
  • Undocumented students

Specifically, this talk will look at how students might be effected by immigration law during Trump's presidency, according to his campaign promises and the power of the federal executive branch.

The initial talk will last from noon-1pm. Shiu-Ming Cheer has also volunteered to do free legal consultations for students after her presentation, from 1-3pm. These consultations are by appointment only and will fill up. If there is a high enough demand, the NILC will send additional lawyers to aid in the free legal consultations. Please RSVP via Eventbrite. (To ensure that we have enough people present, please RSVP separately to the legal consultations, if you are interested.)

This presentation is open to the entire campus. Information regarding the newly forming Cal Poly Pomona Jacobin Reading Group will also be shared. To learn more about the Jacobin Reading Group or this event, please contact alriggle@cpp.edu.
