Assistant Professor, English Department - Hemispheric American Literature

The English & Foreign Languages Department in the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin fall 2018. 

The Position

We seek a faculty member working on Hemispheric American literature (20th/21st C. preferable), with demonstrated interest in Chicano/a or Latino/a literature. The successful candidate will teach courses in the English B.A. and M.A. programs, and contribute to the educational mission of the CSU system and Cal Poly Pomona as a Hispanic-Serving Institution.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to teach courses in Hemispheric American literature.
  • Ability to teach courses in Chicano/a and Latino/a American literature.
  • Ability to teach courses in literary theory.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in queer theory, gender and sexuality studies, or critical race theory.
  • Ph.D. in English, Comparative Literature, or a closely related field from an accredited university by no later than August 1, 2018.
  • Evidence of effective college or university teaching experience, and the potential to build a strong record of scholarly productivity.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and/or service, and of commitment to teaching and working in a multicultural environment.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications

We further seek candidates who demonstrate interest or ability in any of the following areas:

  • Fluency in a language other than English, particularly Spanish
  • Comparative indigenous literatures
  • Creative Writing
  • Poetry and Poetics
  • Internship coordination
