First Time Freshmen
First Time Freshmen are students who have applied, been admitted and have submitted their Enrollment Confirmation Deposit (ECD) with the intent to enroll at Cal Poly Pomona. During their stay on campus, RISE provides students with critical information on being successful freshmen at Cal Poly Pomona.
The RISE program will be the initial stepping-stone resource for students upon their entrance to the University. First Time Freshmen will be well prepared to enter not just the University environment, but specifically the Cal Poly Pomona community.
First Time Freshmen will have the opportunity to participate in sessions that focuses on:
A successful transition to the University by becoming familiar with campus resources such as the Financial Aid Office, the Registrar's Office, the Career Center and the Library; as well as the emotional aspect and challenges of moving to a new community.
A timely graduation by learning the requirements necessary to plan their college careers. This includes, but is not limited to, becoming a proactive student and being aware of opportunities/internships in their field of study.
Prepare for University courses, considering every student needs to be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary for college-level success.
Relationships built with faculty, staff and peers will result in students making foundations for a smooth transition to the University and ultimately gaining a degree.
Help students effectively connect with their academic advisors. Regularly meeting with their advisors will assist students in tracking their path to becoming a timely University graduate.
