Entrepreneurship Camp

"Empowering the Next Generation of Innovators!"

In addition to the regular Entrepreneurship Camp, Cal Poly Pomona’s Student Innovation Idea Lab (iLab) is now launching the Junior Entrepreneurship Camp in 2018!!!! The Entrepreneurship Camp is designed for 7th-12th graders (ages 13-18), while the Junior Entrepreneurship Camp is for 3rd-6th graders (ages 8-12)

The mission of the Cal Poly Pomona iLab is to support student creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship. The iLab empowers young minds with the tools and the courage to make their bright ideas a reality. Since its founding in 2015, the iLab has fostered an entrepreneurial ecosystem on the Cal Poly Pomona campus aimed at supporting student innovators, inventors and entrepreneurs. The iLab accomplishes this through programming, workshops, a strong mentor network of alumni and the local business community, and innovative curriculum including ESTEME, a year-long multidisciplinary innovation course, and a NASA Technology Assessment Program. The iLab has established a physical space on campus where inventive students can meet like-minded students, develop their ideas, build prototypes, and create new ventures. The iLab has partnered with Pomona Unified School District to open an incubator for student startup teams on the Ganesha High School campus. In this space, high school and college students will collaborate to develop new ideas and start new ventures. The goal of the iLab is to reach beyond the campus walls to engage the community, build partnerships and engender creativity and entrepreneurialism among young people. In light of this goal, the iLab is hosting entrepreneurship camps for high school and junior high school students.

The focus of the Entrepreneurship Camp is to help campers identify problems that are worth solving and develop the basic tools to create effective solutions to those problems. At the Entrepreneurship Camp, your camper will learn how to:

Students in the Innovation Lab at Cal Poly
  • go from an idea to a prototype
  • engage prospective customers
  • work collaboratively in a team
  • pitch ideas to customers and investors

In line with Cal Poly Pomona’s learning by doing philosophy, your camper will be engaged in creating a Business Model Canvas of their idea, utilizing various tools to turn their idea into a prototype, talking to actual prospective customers to gauge their interest in the product/service idea and obtain feedback, and pitching their idea to potential investors! Your camper will be:

  • taught by Cal Poly Pomona professors who are experts in their respective fields
  • mentored by local business professionals
  • coached by Cal Poly Pomona upper division students as they develop their product/service ideas

The week will culminate in a pitch competition where campers working in teams will pitch their business ideas before a panel of judges. Family and friends are invited to the pitch competition and awards ceremony. The Entrepreneurship Camp will empower your camper to solve the problems of their generation!

The camp counselors are exceptional University students whose characteristics and accomplishments make them well suited to lead campers in our University entrepreneurship curriculum. The experience campers will have during camp will not only shape them as people, but will provide a framework for life-long learning.
