Pitch Workshop with Pasadena Angels
Pasadena Angels is devoted to helping forward- thinking innovators, creators and entrepreneurs with the mentorship and funding that fuels success. Come learn how to pitch your idea to seasoned investors! The event will feature a "90-second Pitch Fest" which will consist of 90-second pitches in a fast pitch setting. This is a great opportunity for you to practice pitching your startup concept and network with startups from other campuses. Spots are limited, so please register now!

Pat Holmes
Pat Holmes was founding VP Technology for IPC Healthcare (NASDAQ:IPCM), a leading national, venture-capital backed, healthcare group practice. Over 17 years, Mr. Holmes helped IPCM scale from 0 to over 4,300 employees in 28 states, 7M annual patient visits, and $750M annual revenue. Mr. Holmes helped IPCM go public in 2008, and helped lead the integration into a larger public company when IPCM was purchased by TeamHealth (NYSE:TMH) for $1.6B in 2015. Mr. Holmes is a technologist with hands-on technical skills & experience in problem-solving, data analysis, programming, application design, software architecture, system design, business process design, and technical management. He is also an active angel investor and a member of the Board of Directors of the Pasadena Angels. Previously, Mr. Holmes managed software development for nine years for an Inc. 500 company that sold computerized accounting and management systems into the printing industry. His hobbies/interests are: Ultimate Frisbee, Wrestling, Reading, Self-Improvement, Technology, and Optimism.
Jack Miller
Jack is always moving... a fitting trait as Co-Founder and CEO of Move2play - which seeks to encourage active play through interactive toys. Jack grew up in the Bay Area playing a smattering of sports, including college lacrosse. He’s been known to combat the flu with a long run to “sweat it out,” and is often accused of “turning every outing into a physical competition.” Prior to getting his Masters in Product Design from UC Berkeley, Jack spent four years at Calera Corporation. Calera is a green-tech startup based in Los Gatos seeking to sequester CO2 in cement. At Calera, Jack led the design and fabrication team which included managing the machine shop. Jack also holds a Mechanical Engineering degree from UC Santa Barbara. Jack grew up in a golden age of movement based toys, with minimal competition from screens. Toys like “Skip-It,” “Nerf,” and “Bop-It,” made it easier to hop off the couch and play. Getting kids moving in today’s screen-centric world is a more formidable challenge. The intersection of this new-age problem and Jack’s active nature provided the motivation to create Move2play!
Ryan Olliges
Ryan Olliges launched 121C while earning a degree in Aerospace Engineering at the University of Southern California's Viterbi School of Engineering. Ryan served as the lead composites engineer for USC's Rocket Propulsion Lab and worked on researching carbon fiber upcycling in the MC Gill Composites Lab.
Julie-ann Pina
Julie-ann Pina is Managing Partner of CFOrganizers. The group helps PE firms streamline the back office functions of portfolio companies, to increase growth rates and margins. The results also provide much faster and more transparent reports that PE firms require. Her projects are founded on her financial technology background, and interface with IT to provide oversight of HR, Operations, and Strategy. She also helps clients smooth out the challenges that come with rapid growth. Her clients range from a Caltech spinout to Edwards Lifesciences. Past projects include startups, new enterprises within existing companies, and product development and launch. Previously, Julie-ann worked in VC at Chase Capital, and was a VP at BankAmerica including 7 years in investment banking. Julie-ann serves as board member and Treasurer of the Pasadena Angels. She judges and coaches at local events and speaks at Universities and other institutions across Southern California. She also has a long history with FIRST-FTC. In 2015, Julie-ann teamed up with 3 technology startups through NSF’s I-Corps program. One of them is now in rapid growth and has garnered substantial funding. Julie-ann earned her MBA with a certificate in Technology Commercialization at USC, was a Beta Gamma Sigma honoree and CGSM fellow, and invested a portion of the University endowment. Her bachelor’s degree was Quantitative Economics at UC Berkeley. Personally, Julie-ann’s hobbies are raising her 2 kids and a dog, and outdoor activities.
Olukemi Sawyerr
Dr. Olukemi Sawyerr is the inaugural Director of the Student Innovation Idea Lab (iLab) and Professor in the Management and Human Resources Department at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. She is a founding faculty of the Education in STEM Entrepreneurship (ESTEME), the NASA Technology Screen Assessment, and the Startup NASA programs. She received her Ph.D. in Strategic Management from the University of North Texas. She has consulted for several organizations including the Ad Sales Division of Comcast, has taught executive education at the University of California Los Angeles’ Collins Center for Executive Education, and has held visiting professor positions at various universities including the University of Texas at Arlington, Hong Kong Baptist University, and Beijing Institute of Technology. Her research interests include strategic entrepreneurship in emerging economies. She has authored publications in multiple journals including the Strategic Management Journal, International Small Business Journal, Journal of Small Business Management and Journal of High Technology Management Research. She has presented at numerous national and international conferences including the University Business Forum sponsored by the European Commission.

Jay Sherer serves as the Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Azusa Pacific University (APU) and leads the development of their startup competition, Zuventurez PITCH. In 2016, he co-founded the Reclamation Society, a nonprofit startup that produced the fan film, Star Wars: Rivals (now playing on YouTube), and regularly releases The Story Geeks podcast (which Jay co-hosts). His prior experience includes co-founding a tech startup, consulting with nonprofit and tech startups, helping launch Wayfare Labs (a social good and nonprofit startup incubator), and working as a Director of Marketing. Have assessed and reviewed proposals for funding from technology startup companies and university technology spinoffs for a seed stage VC firm, a federal agency and private individuals. Prior to that, ten years of experience in new product development, both as a hands-on design and development engineer as well as a project manager directing multi-disciplinary teams of designers, artists and engineers. Currently Board member Pasadena Angels and advisor to the Innovation Lab at Cal Poly Pomona. Active with the AAUW Tech Trek program which sponsors girls for summer science camp and other programs encouraging more young people, especially girls, to learn more about science and technology. BS degree in electrical engineering from California State University, Fullerton and an MS in technology commercialization from University of Texas at Austin. Has lived and gone to high school and college in 5 different countries, likes learning about new cultures, likes travel to different places, animals and sports.

Yuli Perez
Yuli Perez is the Assistant Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Azusa Pacific University. Over the last three years, Yuli has works with student and alumni teams to resource them to build their ideas and launch their startups. Prior to joining The Office of Innovation, Yuli spent 11 years in retail training and management for Starbucks Coffee Company.
Ericka Olguin
Ericka Olguin is the Analyst for the Student Innovation Idea Lab (iLab) at Cal Poly Pomona. She is an essential part of the iLab, and significantly contributes to its daily functions and activities. She is an integral and valuable asset to the iLab’s success, and continues to spread its message of innovation. Always having a foothold in business, Ericka owned the independent record store, Johnny’s Records, in La Puente, California for 5 years, selling specialty items and records to DJs and musicians alike. For 10 years, she held the position of administrative coordinator in MHR, College of Business at Cal Poly Pomona. She has always had a passion for entrepreneurship and innovation, and is constantly thinking of new ideas and encouraging their possibilities. Her joy is in seeing students succeed, and regularly spends time with her family, sharing her passion for new ideas.
