INTERNATIONAL NGO FIELDWORK IN VANCOUVER

Students will spend 9 days in Vancouver and 2 days in Victoria during J-Term (Winter) break to study International Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).

Area(s) of Study

As a pre-requisite to participate in this program, students will sign up for PLS 3175: "NGOs and Social Service Outreach" in the Fall Semester. This group will travel to Vancouver during the winter break and will sign up for CLS 4990-01 "Special Topics" in the Spring Semester.

Students will create their own nonprofit organization in this class. This course will examine the missions of international NGOs such as Doctors Without Borders, MAP International, The Red Cross, The Salvation Army, World Vision, Habitat for Humanity, CARE, and The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Junior or senior standing at time of program start date

A minimum cumulative CPP GPA of 2.5

Housing

Students will be lodging in a double-occupancy hotel room.

Program Cost

The program cost is TBD and includes the following:


  • Lodging
  • Meals (2/day)
  • Site Visits/Excursion Fees
  • Ground Transportation
  • Student Health Insurance

Once accepted, study abroad program charges and payment deadlines will be posted on the student's Bronco Direct account. Students pay $500 non-refundable application fee and regular Cal Poly Pomona tuition for the Fall Semester course. The application fee will be deducted from the remaining program cost.
