Workplace Ethics

Here you'll find information on work/life and wellness resources, services, and tools available through your Employee Assistance Program (EAP), which is called LifeMatters and administered by Empathia.  Calls and referrals through LifeMatters are strictly confidential in accordance with all applicable laws.  This page also provides links to other work-life and wellness related resources, including the Children's Center, campus fitness centers, and more.

  • Special accommodations are made for break times for employees who are nursing mothers. Refer to Breaks/Rest Periods for additional information.

  • Children's Center - Operating under the administration and support of Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) and Cal Poly Pomona, the Children's Center provides quality preschool services for campus student-parents, faculty, staff, alumni and community.

  • WorkLife Complete - A program offered through your Employee Assistance Program (EAP), LifeMatters which is administered by Empathia.  The program offers assisted searches by a WorkLife Consultant for specific, custom resources for your needs in many areas, including:

    • Child and elder care resources and  guidance
    • Adoption assistance
    • Schools and universities
    • Convenience services (Home  improvement, veterinarians, and more)

      This service is available 24 hours a day, every day of the year by calling the LifeMatters toll-free number. You will be connected to a WorkLife Consultant who will gather information, process your request and provide you with specific, pre-verified resources in your area through a detailed report.  You may also fill out an online form in the “Find Services” tab in the Relationships area of the website to customize a search just for your needs. No matter if you contact Empathia by phone or by the website request form, confirmed referral information will be sent to you within two to three business days.
  • Webinars are also available on worklife and wellness topics through CPPLifeMatters (Log on to:  http://www.mylifematters.com/ password: pomona), click on your Workplace tab, click on Webinars and you will find access to a list of Upcoming Webinars and a link to Archived Webinars.

  • LifeMatters Financial Service - A program offered through your Employee Assistance Program (EAP), LifeMatters which is administered by Empathia, offers consultation with a professional Consumer Credit Counselor on a variety of issues related to your personal finances. Some common reasons for a financial consultation:

    • Designing a budget that works for you
    • Planning for a child’s education or your retirement
    • Options for getting out of debt
    • Learning what you will need to save and what lenders will look at when you want to buy a house
    • How getting married or divorced will affect your finances and credit rating
    • How to obtain and review your credit report, correct errors, and build a positive credit rating
    • Pros and cons of borrowing money from your retirement plan
    • Choosing between leasing and buying a car
    • Guidelines on establishing an appropriate level of life insurance

You can purchase financial planning services at an hourly rate--this is separate from your benefit described above.

  • The Legal Consultation Service - A program offered through your Employee Assistance Program (EAP), LifeMatters which is administered by Empathia, provides a free initial legal consultation with an experienced attorney, either over the phone or in person for personal law issues ranging from consumer concerns, to divorce and custody issues, to personal injury cases, and more.  Some exclusions may apply (ie: employment related law). How to access:  Log on to:  http://www.mylifematters.com/ (Link opens in a new window)  (password: pomona) or call 1-800-367-7474

    • Health and Wellness Programs through Your CalPERS Health Plan - Our employee health plans are contracted through the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) for all eligible CSU employees and eligible dependents.  Whether you are enrolled in an Anthem Blue Cross, Blue Shield of Califonria, Health Net of California, Kaiser Permanente, Sharp Health Plan, or UnitedHealthcare plan, they all offer an array of resources, tools, and programs to help you stay healthy and be well.  Contact your individual health plan for details on what they offer and how to access.

    • Campus Recreation (Facility - Bronco Recreation and Intramural Complex - Also known as "BRIC")

    • University Housing Services (UHS) Fitness ExpressFitness Express is a full-body, fitness facility primarily for students living in the Residence Halls, Residential Suites or CRS. However, faculty and staff of Cal Poly Pomona are also welcome to become members at a nominal fee.
