Freshmen Orientation Checklist

What do you need to do before Orientation?

Two weeks before your orientation date (ACTION REQUIRED)

You will receive an email with links for all of the following that you must complete:

  1. Pass your Online Orientation with an 80% or above.
  2. Complete the emergency contact and accommodations form.
  3. Upload your photo for your Bronco Card so you can pick it up at Orientation; bring a government-issued Photo ID to orientation.
  4. Submit your official transcripts to the Office of Admissions and bring all unofficial transcripts to orientation.
  5. Check your MyCPP for any holds that may prevent you from registering for classes. Resolve them before you come to orientation so that they will not interfere with your ability to register for classes.
  6. Complete the English Directed-Self Placement Survey. Be sure to write down the result of the survey and bring it to Orientation.
Reminders to best prepare for your orientation:
  1. If possible, bring an electronic device that can access websites (smartphone, tablet, laptop) to orientation.
  2. Orientation is a 2-day, 1-night event, review the orientation schedule and pack light for your overnight stay. Your overnight stay will include two bed sheets, a pillowcase, a towel, and hand towel.
  3. Make sure your cell phone number is updated in your BroncoDirect Student Center so we can introduce you to Billy Chat. Learn more about Billy Chat and how to update your number here: cpp.edu/billychat.
  4. Caltrans has closed the westbound San Bernardino Freeway (I-10) on-ramp at Kellogg Drive starting on Tuesday, May 7. The closure is scheduled to last 90 days. Prepare ample time to travel to campus and review the Cal Poly Pomona Compass website for alternative routes. https://www.cpp.edu/~compass/
  5.  If you are under the age of 18 and wish to participate in evening activities at our Bronco Recreation Intramural Complex, print this waiver, have it signed by a parent/legal guardian, and bring it to your Orientation.
  6. Download the Cal Poly Pomona Mobile App for the latest information about CPP. https://www.cpp.edu/~mobile-app/.
  7. Complete the Alcohol e-CheckUpToGo online assessment.

One week before your orientation date (ACTION REQUIRED)

  1. Complete any items from the list above that you did not finish.
  2. Check your MyCPP account for any holds. Resolve them before you come to orientation so that they will not interfere with your ability to register for classes.
  3. Print out your parking permit and put it on your dashboard if you are driving to Cal Poly Pomona. Your parking permit will be sent to you in the 1-week email reminder before your Orientation date.
  4. Review the schedule and pack light for your overnight stay. Your overnight stay will include 2 bed sheets, a pillowcase, a towel, and hand towel.

What should I bring to Orientation?

To make the best of your Orientation experience, we recommend you bring the following:

  • A laptop, tablet, or smart phone to register for classes (if you are unable to bring a device, there will be computers labs available) 
  • Bronco ID number, Bronco Username, and password
  • Unofficial transcripts from high school and any colleges
  • Government-issued photo ID card (such as a driver’s license or passport) in order to pick up your BroncoID card
  • Test scores (SAT, SAT II, AP, ALEKS PPL,  etc…)
  • Comfortable shoes and casual clothing
  • Workout/Pool Attire (optional)
  • Any medication you may need
  • Sunscreen
  • Extra spending money (for bookstore items, snacks, etc…)
  • Personal hygiene items (shampoo, toothbrush, etc...)

Is there anything I need to do after Orientation?

There are a few things you will need to do before school starts:

After you are admitted to Cal Poly Pomona
  • Apply for Financial Aid using FAFSA no later than March 2.
  • Pay your Enrollment Confirmation Deposit (ECD) via BroncoDirect by May 1. You cannot register for Orientation until you pay your ECD.
  • Register for Orientation via BroncoDirect beginning Tuesday, April 2 at 10:00amThe deadline to register for Orientation is Monday, June 3
  • Pay your Orientation Fee via BroncoDirect.
  • Submit your test scores (SAT, ACT, AP, etc…) and your final official transcripts.
  • All non-local freshmen must fill out information for housing. There will be a housing hold on your MyCPP/BroncoDirect preventing from getting advising and registering for classes.
  • Complete the English Directed-Self Placement Survey. Be sure to write down the result of the survey and bring it to Orientation.
  • Complete the Alcohol e-CheckUpToGo online assessment.
