Pre-requisite Course: PLS 3175, Fall 2021. Trip contingent on COVID travel guidelines.

NGO Fieldwork in Palm Desert
Students will spend 9 days on in Palm Desert, CA during the January 2022 Winter Intersession to do internships in a variety of dynamic nonprofit organizations (NGOs). Participating students will enroll in PLS 3175: "NGOs and Social Service Outreach" in the Fall Semester 2022. Students will create their own nonprofit organization in this course. Students will also learn how to write grant proposals. This course will examine the missions of a wide array of NGOs in the U.S. and abroad. You will be paired virtually with your selected Palm Desert NGO for one session during the latter part of this course. At the end of this course, students will travel by bus to Palm Desert to work with your selected NGO. Students will receive 3-units of credit during the Spring Semester for this trip (CLS 4990). This trip is contingent on the COVID travel guidelines at that time. All students for this trip must be vaccinated and must be in possession of a vaccination card in order to participate. Approximate Trip Cost: $950 (includes bus transportation, lodging, insurance, excursions, group meals). The group will stay in the Best Western Palm Desert.
