1. What are the requirements to change my major to a Science major?
Program Upper Division Requirements (90 units - or 60 semester units- or more) Lower Division Requirements (90 quarter units -or 60 semester units- or less

Biological Sciences (Biotechnology,  Environmental Biology,  Biology)

3.25 Overall & CPP GPA, “C” or better in: BIO 121/121L, BIO 122/122L, and BIO 123/123L or BIO 1210/L and BIO 1220/L.

*Requests must be submitted by the 5th week of Spring Semester

*Current Biology students who want to switch to a different major within Biology can submit the change of major request at any time.

3.25 GPA Overall & CPP, “C” or better in: BIO 121/121L, BIO 122/122L, and BIO 123/123L or BIO 1210/L and BIO 1220/L.

Chemistry (American Chemical Society, Biochemistry, General Chemistry)

*Attend Change of Major Meeting in the Fall or Spring Semester. Must submit online Change of Major Petition by end of the 5th week of Fall or Spring semester.

Internal Change of Majors

 

Switch from Pedagogy to General Kinesiology

Upper Division students (90 quarter units or 60 semester units or more) will need to receive a "C" or better in Bio 115/L/A or BIO 1150/L and STA 120 or STA 1200, and must have a 2.8 Overall & CPP GPA.

*After completion of the above requirements, students must meet with the Department Chair for advising before the fall or spring semester change of major meeting.

 

External Change of Majors

2.8 overall & CPP GPA and must complete at least 1 semester at CPP.

*Attend Change of Major Meeting in the Fall or Spring Semester. Must submit online Change of Major Petition by end of the 5th week of Fall or Spring semester.

Internal Change of Majors

 

Switch from Pedagogy to General Kinesiology

Lower Division students ( 90 quarter units or 60 semester units or less) must complete 2 quarters at CPP and have a 2.8 Overall & CPP GPA.

*After completion of the above requirements, students must meet with the Department Chair for advising before the fall or spring semester change of major meeting.

Mathematics (Applied Mathematics/ Statistics; Secondary Teacher Prep/Pure Mathematics)

2.0  Overall & CPP GPA

“C” or better in MAT 114, 115, and 116 or complete MAT 1140, 1150, and MAT 2140 with a 2.5 or better average GPA.

*Attend Change of Major Meeting offered once each term. Must submit change of major form by week 8.

2.0 Overall & CPP GPA

Must have completed MAT 1140. Average GPA in MAT 1140, 1150, 2140 must be a 2.5.

Physics & Astronomy (Biophysics; General; Intergrated Science)

2.0 Overall & CPP GPA, 1 year of calculus MAT 114, 115, 116 or MAT 1140 and MAT 1150 with "C-" or better.  Equivalent of 1 year of calculus-based Physics PHY 131/L, PHY 132/L, PHY 133/L or PHY 1510/L and PHY 1520/L  with "C-" or better.

2. How do I change my major?

You must complete an approved Petition to Change Major Curriculum form online and meet the requirements to change to your desired major. See chart above.

Tuesday, September 18th from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Thursday, September 20th from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Both meetings in Building 8, Room 345


  * You must attend one of the above change of major meetings if you wish to change your major to Computer Science. For the 18-19 academic year, there will be a change of major meeting held in Spring semester. More info to come.

Kinesiology

September 13, 2018 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Room: Building 66, Room 101

*You must attend the above change of major meeting if you wish to change your major to Kinesiology.

Mathematics

September 25th from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
October 9th from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Room: Building 8, Room 4

Physics

October 9th from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Room: Building 4, Floor 1, Room 314

Meeting is for sutdents who are interested in majoring or minoring in Physics. You must attend this change of major meeting.

4. Should I begin taking courses in the major that I want to switch into?

No, you should first consult with an Advisor from that major first to see if switching your major would be to your benefit. We would also recommend reviewing the curriclum sheets for the new major found here.

5. What if I do not meet the minimum GPA requirement?

You will need to take GE’s in order to boost your GPA to the minimum requirement before applying to change your major.

8. If I want to change my major to another major outside of the College of Science, what do I need to do? What are the requirements?
