What should I take for Statistics and Biometrics?

There are major changes to the Statistics and Biometrics courses in the semester system.  Please note that BIO 2110L will be offered in Fall 2019 and after.  STA 1300 is a new course and is in high demand.  It is our goal that your graduation will NOT be impacted by the availability of these two new courses.   Please read the following guideline carefully to see the approved alternatives.  Petitions will be required.

Quarter students

  • Gen Biology, Botany, Zoology, and Env. Biology (STA 120 and BIO 211/L)
    • Best option (especially those considering graduate school):
Take STA 1300 and BIO 2110L; and use any BIO/MAT/STA course to petition for the missing units
    • Alternative for students who have taken STA 120 or will graduate before Spring 2020:
Take at least one STA course: STA 120, STA 1300,  or any STA 100/1000/200/2000 course to satisfy STA 120; and use any BIO/MAT/STA course to petition for BIO 211/L.
  • Biotechnology and Microbiology (BIO 211/L)
    • Best option: use STA 1300 to substitute BIO 211/L
    • Alternative for students who have taken STA 120 or will graduate before Spring 2020:
Take any STA course: STA 120, STA 1300,  or any STA 100/1000/200/2000 course to petition for BIO 211/L

Semester students (All majors)

  • Take STA 1300 and BIO 2110L as shown in the curriculum sheet
  • If you will graduate before Spring 2020 and cannot get into these courses before graduation:
    • Petitions will be accepted using a similar level STA course to substitute STA 1300 and/or a spare BIO/MAT/STA unit for BIO 2110L.
