Adapted Physical Education Added Authorization

ADAPTED PHYSICAL EDUCATION ADDED AUTHORIZATION (APE AA)
CALIFORNIA STATE POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY, POMONA
 
For those obtaining or who currently have their
SINGLE SUBJECT PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHING CREDENTIAL:

 

  1. Interview with Adapted Physical Education Coordinator, Dr. Beth Foster
It will be necessary to bring the following documents to the interview:
A copy of the basic valid California credential. The following is a list of the basic credentials that are acceptable by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing for the APE added authorization:
* Single Subject in Physical Education (does not require CSET or pre-requisite courses) * Multiple Subject
* Special Education Specialist
• Added Authorization to teach physical education
Expiration date of Credential: _____________________________________________
NOTE: Only valid California credentials will be honored.
A set of transcripts verifying degree and credential courses. (Unofficial transcripts for the interview are acceptable.)
Catalogue descriptions and course outlines of any courses taken as an upper division or graduate student relating to APE.
Letter(s)from school district personnel verifying satisfactory completion of a minimum of one year of teaching experience in APE. The letters should include dates, grade/age level, and types of students with disabilities that you taught. In addition, teaching performance may be observed and evaluated by the Cal Poly APE faculty.
OR
If no APE teaching experience, then student teaching or some other arrangements with the APE Coordinator will be made in order to fulfill this requirement. It is recommended that 180 hours of actual supervised APE teaching occurs to meet this requirement.
  1. Completion of the CSET with a passing score in the single subject area of physical education.
  2. Based upon the results of the interview and documents analysis, a candidate's program may include some or all of the APE Added Authorization courses.

Apply for formal admittance into Cal Poly as a Postbaccalaureate Graduate Student. This is accomplished by completing the online application at Cal State Apply: https://www2.calstate.edu/apply

  1. Complete above program requirements as indicated in step #3, maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or better in all APE courses.
  2. Complete APE exit competency portfolio.
  3. APE coordinator conducts an exit interview, after final review and approval of the portfolio and recommends to the Credential Analyst at CPP the candidate for APE AA.
  4. Complete all paperwork with the Credential Analyst.

For those who currently do not have a background in KINESIOLOGY:

The following will be added to the above program:

(1) Completion of the CSET with a passing score in the single subject area of physical education.

(2) Take Kinesiology core courses as prerequisites to the APE AA program.
