Abstract: In parallel to the recent advances in biomedical technologies expanding our capabilities for disease monitoring and diagnostics, there has also been growing interest in affordable, accessible, and quantitative interdisciplinary toolsets that can potentially improve or transform healthcare delivery worldwide. Toward this ambitious goal, in this talk I will present lensfree computational imaging and sensing platforms that are devised for telemedicine applications, enabling high-throughput, lightweight, and cost effective biophotonics tools that can be operated in field settings. Further, I will discuss some of the integrated mobile phone based testing and diagnostic systems that can perform microanalysis on bodily fluids and detect allergens in food samples, creating personalized medicine tools for health screening in various public venues such as homes or offices. In addition, I will illustrate a super-resolution barcoding technique that can perform highly multiplexed analysis of genomics and proteomics in single cells to decipher the structure and function of cell biology especially for cancer research, neuroscience and regenerative medicine. The presented innovative solutions hold the promise to impact the global healthcare by merging engineering approaches and medical sciences.
