Courtney P. Wilt
Courtney P. Wilt is a senior physics major who is doing her senior project with Dr Vandervoort. The research project involves constructing a Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy Instrument, a microscope that reveals information about the size and concentration of fluorescent molecules in solution, parameters that are important in various areas of biophysical research. The technique collects fluorescence from a tiny volume within solution, and due to thermal motion of the molecules, the measured intensity fluctuates. Analyzing time traces of these fluctuations yields information about physical parameters of the fluorophores, for example, diffusion constants linked to the binding of protein molecules in a biological sample.
