Student Handbook 2019-2020 Image of Students

Welcome to the 2019-2020 academic year! Cal Poly Pomona is committed to maintaining a safe and healthy living and learning environment for students, faculty, and staff. Please take time to review the various policies and procedures found in this online version of the Student Handbook. Additionally, you will find useful information about campus resources, support programs, and numerous ways to stay involved.

Eileen G SullivanOn behalf of Student Affairs and the entire university community, welcome to Cal Poly Pomona (CPP) and the start of the 2019-2020 academic year. Whether you are a new or continuing undergraduate student or a graduate student who has returned for post baccalaureate study to advance your career, the faculty and staff are committed to your academic and personal success and prepared to partner with you as you grow and achieve within a supportive and safe learning environment, steeped in the roots of our polytechnic identity of “learning by doing”. Through this experience, you will come to understand that by attending classes you will gain knowledge, but by participating fully in the University experience, you will receive an education.

During your time at CPP, you will have the opportunity to engage with and learn from others in our diverse campus community. I encourage you to make the most of your time here, by focusing on your academic work and complementing your in-class learning with out-of-class involvement experiences. Whether it’s on the playing field or in the residence halls, or whether you’re conducting research with a faculty member, interning with a business, working on the rose float or in the innovation lab, studying abroad, volunteering, participating in a performing arts ensemble, or serving a student organization in a leadership capacity, you will discover that learning at Cal Poly Pomona takes place in a variety of environments. Through your interactions within our community, you will gain exposure to new perspectives, cultures, backgrounds and approaches to learning.

The opportunities provided for you at Cal Poly Pomona are matched only by our incredibly strong commitment to student success. The campus resource material, as well as the policies and procedures outlined in this handbook, will provide you with information critical to ensuring your responsible membership in the CPP community and your overall success.

Wherever you find yourself in your educational and life journey, understand that you are an individual capable of being successful, getting involved and making a positive contribution to this learning community. Because of this, we expect a great deal from you and look forward to celebrating your successes during the coming year.

Disclaimer: The content for this Handbook was compiled from the University Catalog, accessible at https://catalog.cpp.edu/, the University Policies webpage, and various departmental webpages. This Handbook is intended to be an easily accessible resource - one that frames both student rights and responsibilities as a Cal Poly Pomona student (vis a vis the Code of Conduct, Academic Integrity Policy and other important institutional policies), and one that guides students to pertinent information regarding how to get involved and be successful. No student handbook can anticipate every circumstance or question regarding university policies. As changes are made to the Handbook during the course of an academic year, this digital version and all of its linked contents will serve as an essential resource for policies, procedures and resources. Please note this is not a comprehensive list of all University rules and regulations.
