Veterans Resource Center Welcomes Fall 2019 Students with Open House

The Veterans Resource Center welcomed military-affiliated students to the Fall 2019 semester by hosting a reception and open house on September 5.

Students, staff, faculty and community leaders enjoyed a welcome by Veteran Resource Advisors Jailen Trinidad and Jamie Orozco-Campos. Cal Poly Pomona President Soraya M. Coley spoke to guests about the VRC's dedication since it's launch in 2012 and credited the centers' growth to its commitment to the success of Cal Poly Pomona's veterans and military dependents.

Horses for Heroes fall 2019 program

CPP Student Veterans Participate in Horses for Heroes Project

The Veterans Resource Center partnered with the W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center to pilot Horses for Heroes at Cal Poly Pomona. This program is focused on helping veterans learn how to care for Arabian Horses while enjoying the benefits of the horse-human bond. The program began on September 12 and will run through the fall 2019 semester.

Veterans Resource Center Partners with Athletics for Salute to Service Weekend

Bronco Athletics, the Veterans Resource Center and Cal Poly Pomona Army ROTC partnered together to honor veterans, active duty service members and first responders by hosting Salute to Service weekends during the fall 2019 semester.

The first Salute to Service weekend took place from September 12 to 15 at the Kellogg Gym and dedicated the CPP's women's volleyball and soccer games to those who are military affiliated or who serve as first responders.

Discussion Leaders for California and the American War Experience Project

California and the American War Experience Are Focus of Public Cal Poly Pomona Series

California has played a central role in many military and cultural aspects of American wars, from building weapons to being the birthplace of most anti-war groups. The Cal Poly Pomona Veterans Resource Center (VRC) and the California Center for Ethics and Policy (CCEP) will use a $65,000 National Endowment for the Humanities grant to support five community conversations about the “American War Experience through California Voices.”

Veterans Resource Center hosted its first annual Future Forward event

The Veterans Resource Center collaborated with colleges across Cal Poly Pomona to launch the inaugural Future Forward event on Oct. 11, affirming the university’s vision of The Future of Work by highlighting entrepreneurship, veteran resources, employment opportunities and education resources.
