Veterans Resource Center Welcomes Fall 2019 Students with Open House

The Veterans Resource Center welcomed military-affiliated students to the Fall 2019 semester by hosting a reception and open house on September 5.

Students, staff, faculty and community leaders enjoyed a welcome by Veteran Resource Advisors Jailen Trinidad and Jamie Orozco-Campos. Cal Poly Pomona President Soraya M. Coley spoke to guests about the VRC’s dedication since it’s launch in 2012 and credited the centers’ growth to its commitment to the success of Cal Poly Pomona’s veterans and military dependents.

Guest speaker Larry Vasquez, City of Los Angeles Director of Veterans Affairs, spoke about issues veterans in the Los Angeles community are facing and how the city is addressing those issues. Eileen Sullivan, Student Affairs Interim Vice President, encouraged the use of the VRC by highlighting its benefits offered to all military-affiliated students on campus.

Attendees enjoyed refreshments at the Student Services Building’s (SSB) patio and cake at the VRC’s new location on the westside of the SSB. The VRC moved into the SSB earlier this year. The larger space accommodates two study areas and a kitchenette and a dedicated space for VA Certifying Official Sam Kim, now located within the VRC. Students can still take advantage of open computer usage and printing, on- and off-campus resources and referrals, and check-out items.
