The following UNAC/UHCP scholarships are open to students pursuing a career in the health care field and enrolled in an accredited college, university, trade or technical school in Fall 2024. Applications are open until May 6, 2024.


Alexis G. Philius 
Scholarship: Lack of diversity has significant consequences on health outcomes, health equity for patients and communities of color. UNAC/UHCP has decided to address underrepresentation in health professions with this scholarship.

                     For students of Black/African descent pursuing education toward a career in health care 

                     Five scholarships of $2,000 each


Delima MacDonald Community 
Scholarship: Delima MacDonald, RN, 30-year UNAC/UHCP Treasurer, taught generations of UNAC/UHCP affiliate leaders the value of a dollar, and ensured they spent union dollars wisely. 

                     For community members who will be enrolled in a health care degree program 

                     Five scholarships of $2,000 each

NIH UGSP Scholarship Overview:

  • A dedicated program for students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are committed to careers in biomedical, behavioral, and social science health-related research.
  • Scholarships of up to $20,000 per academic year to cover tuition, educational expenses, and reasonable living costs.
  • Scholarships can be renewed for up to 4 consecutive years.
  • For every year of scholarship funding, students commit to two NIH service obligations, which provide unparalleled research training and experience at NIH.

15 White Coats -  Funding the Future Physicians Scholarship Deadline 9/30/2023

The 16 White Coats, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is spearheading  The Funding the Future Physicians Initiative set to commence in November 2023. The program seeks to prepare underrepresented minority students from HBCUs, Hispanic-Serving Institutions, and Indigenous-serving Institutions for medical school and equip them with the tools, resources, and mentorship needed to succeed in healthcare.  This 6-month, virtual cohort program, conceived by The 15 White Coats, offers a holistic approach supporting MCAT preparation, mentorship, personal statement crafting, interview preparedness, culturally-attuned mental conditioning, and financial aid for 50 students from HBCU, Hispanic-serving, and Indigenous-serving institutions. Cal Poly Pomona College Corps is currently accepting applications for the 2023-2024 cohort

Cal Poly Pomona College Corps is currently accepting applications for the 2023-2024 cohort! We need your help sharing this amazing opportunity with Cal Poly Pomona students. College Corps is a new program from the Governor’s Office and California Volunteers to help full-time undergraduate students pay for college, uniting students of different backgrounds with a common purpose. Fellows receive up to $10,000 for completing 450 hours of service within an academic year .  The program is also the first state service opportunity open to AB 540 eligible Dreamers.   College Corpshas three goals: 1) engage college students in meaningful service opportunities that build leadership skills and civic responsibility, 2) help students from diverse backgrounds graduate college on time and with less debt, and 3) support the work of community-based organization focused on one of three priorities - K-12 education, food insecurity and climate action.

What do Fellows Do?

Fellows work with K-12 schools, food banks / pantries, or climate action organizations to build healthier and more equitable communities across California. They do this in a variety of ways such as tutoring and mentoring K-12 children at afterschool centers, libraries and/or online, packaging and distributing food to local community residents, harvesting and processing produce. We are looking for students who have a passion for working in partnership with communities to make positive change!  

What are the Eligibility Criteria to Apply?

To participate, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Have a high school diploma or its equivalent (i.e., GED) by the beginning of the 2023-2024 academic year
  • Be enrolled full-time (minimum of 12 units per semester) as an undergraduate student at Cal Poly Pomona
  • Currently be in good academic standing and remain so throughout the academic year (no minimum GPA required)
  • Commit to actively participate in the program and to maintain full-time enrollment status for the entire academic year from August 2023 thru May 2024
  • Not planning to participate in a semester off-campus (Study Abroad) during the upcoming academic year
  • Students selected to join the Fellowship must need to work at least part time and/or borrow student loans to meet their educational costs, and should meet at least  ONE (1) of the following three priority criteria for the 2023-24 academic year:

Where do Fellows Serve?

College Corps at Cal Poly Pomona offers service positions with designated local nonprofits and municipal agencies within a reasonable distance from campus (service sites are in the cities of Pomona, Ontario, El Monte, City of Industry, and Los Angeles). 

How do Eligible Students Apply?

Students submit an online application. Applications are now open and can be found on the College Corps website. The priority application deadline is March 24, and the final application deadline is May 1.
