Meet Our Ag Ambassadors

Amanda Kelly

Taylor Calabrese

Major: Agribusiness and Food Industry Management

Year in School: Senior

Email: aakelly@cpp.edu

Hi, my name is Amanda Kelly. I am currently a senior at Cal Poly Pomona majoring in Agribusiness and Food Industry Management. Ever since I was little, I have always had a passion for animals and agriculture. In essence, this helped me choose agriculture for my major. Throughout my years at Cal Poly Pomona I have been involved in the Livestock Show Team, Agribusiness and Management Club, Collegiate Future Farmers of America, Education Opportunity Program, Foal Watch, Four Year Pledge and Agriculture Ambassador. Within a majority of these clubs I have held leadership positions, which helped prepare me for the future. When I graduate, I plan on working for an agribusiness company in the grain industry, in hopes to further my learning by obtaining my master's degree later on. Although my family was never in agriculture, I grew up in an urban location in Sacramento, but rode horses as a child and still currently do. This will be my second year as an Agriculture Ambassador, and I look forward to gaining more experience and knowledge about how great the agriculture industry is, along with showing prospective students what Cal Poly Pomona has to offer them, especially in agriculture.

Major:  Agribusiness and Food Industry Management/Pre-Vet

Year in School: Senior

Email:  ajhuizar@cpp.edu

Hello my name is Alan Huizar, and I am an Agribusiness & Food Industry major at Cal Poly Pomona. I grew up in the city of Pomona, but have spent the past 8 years in the valley of Perris, California. I am a first-generation student and the first of my family to attend a university. In my free time I love trying out new restaurants, spending time with my family, playing baseball, and going out for hikes with my 6-year old Doberman Pinscher, Rocky. My favorite experience at Cal Poly Pomona has been learning and growing as a student each year, and gaining friendships along the way that will last a lifetime. Currently, I am an E- Board member in the ABM Club and work at a small animal hospital in Azusa. Although I am an Agribusiness major, I aspire on attending veterinarian school in the Mid-West, and plan on using my Agribusiness degree one day to open my own animal hospital. I discovered my passion for animals while spending time on my family’s cattle ranches back in Zacatecas, Mexico. As an Ag Ambassador, I hope to inspire prospective students from the College of Agriculture in any field they wish to pursue, and in the end, be able to not only pass on my knowledge and experience, but demonstrate to students the endless possibilities that agriculture has to offer!

Major: Animal Science, Pre-Vet

Year in School: Junior

Email: cgarcia1@cpp.edu

I am currently studying Animal Science in the hopes of pursuing a career in veterinary medicine in the near future. I plan to attend vet school and would like to have my own mixed practice. This is my second year as an Ag Ambassador so I am excited to see what this year has in store for me. I think it’s important for many future students to know all of the great opportunities CPP offers. My goal is to help guide or aid future students to apply to this school and help them throughout their academic careers here at CPP. Besides my academic career, I am working part time at a pizza restaurant, called MOD. On my down time I like to read, mainly science fiction or dystopian based novels, and play with my dachshund puppy, Peanut.

Hello, my name is Ellese Clarke and I am ecstatic to be an Ag Ambassador for the 2017-2018 school year! I am an Animal Science Pre- Vet major at Cal Poly Pomona. I am currently in my third year here and am very happy to see what this school year has in store. I was born and raised in sunny San Diego, California. I am the proud “pet mom” of an alexandrine parrot, golden retriever, and domestic short hair cat. I currently am a live- in student worker at the W. K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center here on campus and am also very involved with: Danny’s Farm, Shades of Queens, and Pre-Vet club. My experience here has been great thus far from being a Lab Assistant, undergraduate research, and many clubs and organizations; I would not change one thing. I have always had an interest and passion for science, animals, and caring for other beings in general and from this I decided to pursue my career in veterinary medicine. My time here at Cal Poly has helped me to find my new love for large animals. My main goal is to become a large/exotic animal veterinarian. I am very thankful for the opportunity to be an Ag Ambassador and look forward to being a great influence and valuable resource for prospective students and the chance to be just as impactful and informative in regards to the College of Ag and Cal Poly Pomona in general as others were to me.

Hi! My name is Adriana Espinoza, I am from Sun Valley California, and I am a fourth year majoring in animal science here at Cal Poly Pomona. Once I have complete my undergraduate degree, I plan on attending veterinary school and becoming a large animal veterinarian. Currently, I am a member of the Pre-vet club and am also on the E-board for my sorority, Alpha Pi Sigma. My favorite Cal Poly Pomona experience has been participating in the lambing project down at the farm and getting to bottle feed the lambs throughout the spring season. I enjoy the outdoors, camping, going to concerts and volunteering at my local animal shelter. I have an abundance of animals back home; I have five dogs and a leopard gecko that I absolutely love. Being able to work with animals has always been a dream of mine and I am happy to say that I have chosen the right career path for myself. I am very excited to be an Ag Ambassador for the College of Agriculture! This gives me the opportunity to educate students on what the college has to offer and the many ways in which you can become involved. I look forward to sharing my experiences and creating new ones.

As of now, my career goal is to do Research & Development in hopes of developing my own food product for food companies. I am beyond grateful to be an Ag Ambassador for the  2017-2018 year and I cannot wait to learn more about the College of Agriculture, help assist transfer students and incoming students about opportunities that Cal Poly Pomona has to offer, gain more experience with public speaking and presentations, and build more connections with the fellow Ag Ambassadors/Peer Advisors and the people in the College of Agriculture!
