President's Video Update for Feb. 1

President Ortiz gives a video message on Feb. 1, 2010.

At the latest CSU Board of Trustees meeting, presentations for the 2010-11 budget reflected a blend of optimism and caution, President Ortiz says during his video update on Feb. 1. Because many things can change before a budget is finalized, preparation is essential, he says.

In his weekly address, Ortiz details how Cal Poly Pomona will meet the CSU's initiative to increase graduation rates for freshmen and transfer students over the next few years. A faculty-staff team led by Provost Marten denBoer has developed recommendations for improving advising, communication, and student support and engagement.

The president announces that Southern California Edison will be the university's newest neighbor as it moves into Innovation Village. He also gives an update on the 2010 summer session and reminds the campus community to review the current draft of the strategic plan.
