"From there to here, from here to there, funny things are everywhere." Funny things are happening at Cal Poly Pomona with the production of "Seussical" the Musical.

Based on the writings of Dr. Seuss, the musical is an amalgamation of his beloved, quirky tales. The books featured in this musical include "Horton Hears a Who," "Yertle the Turtle and Other Stories" and "The Butter Battle Book." The musical debuted on Broadway in 2000, and it became a Tony award-winning show.

Susan Burns, director of the musical, says the show is a "fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza that has lessons and fun for all ages." Janet Noll is the musical director, Alyssa Cossey is the choreographer, and the cast includes 24 students.

The show opens with a young boy who is led through adventures by the mischievous Cat, a character from "The Cat in the Hat." The Cat helps to create the Seussical world and acts as narrator. Scott Robinson, a music major with an emphasis in music theatre performance, will play the role of the Cat.

"I really like the positivity and energy of this show," Robinson says. "Dr. Seuss has a good way of hiding important lessons in a fun and sometimes crazy story. I think people will dig the way their childhood favorites are all blended together in a cohesive way. If the audience enjoys the show even half as much as the cast does, then we're golden."

Performances are scheduled for May 13, 14 and 15 at 8 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for students.
