Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks will be served all day at Denny's Diner when it opens this week in the newly constructed Residential Suites. The diner, which will stay open until 1 a.m. on most days, features a full menu and expanded hours to accommodate students' busy schedules.
The menu includes Denny's favorites, such as the Grand Slam, the Grand Slamwich, breakfast burritos and the Texas Prime Rib & Egg Sandwich. Along with breakfast, which will be available all day, the diner will serve hamburgers with never-frozen ground beef, turkey pesto panini sandwiches, prime rib cheesesteaks on ciabatta bread and fresh salads. The menu also includes a variety of munchies - mozzarella sticks, chicken strips and smothered cheese fries. A full line of Pepsi beverages, fruit smoothies and espresso drinks made with Seattle's Best Coffee are on the menu.
Based on a new "All Nighter" restaurant concept, Cal Poly Pomona's Denny's Diner is the second of its kind to open in the country; the first was at Florida State University a few weeks earlier. The dining room includes 60 seats in booths, tables and at the counter. The shaded outdoor seating accommodates up to 60 people on a patio overlooking the athletic fields and the Sycamore Grove at Bronco Commons.
A survey of 650 resident students found that two-thirds preferred a diner-style restaurant, and Denny's was the No. 1 choice of restaurant chains that franchise or license its operations.
Next to the diner, which replaces the Vista Cafe, is a convenience store with drinks, chips, snacks and to-go meals.
The diner will be open from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m., Monday through Thursday; 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Sunday. Hours are subject to change.
