Edison Completed Power Repairs

[Updated 8:22 a.m.] Southern California Edison has completed urgent repairs on an electrical substation, and the campus has transitioned from generator power back to the main grid.

Buildings in the campus core, including student residences and the University Library, smoothly returned to the main power grid. Electricians restored power to each building one at a time early this morning.

Edison notified the university that a piece of equipment in the electrical substation, which powers the campus core, was in danger of failing. Edison advised that the repairs be made immediately. Crews began working around 6 a.m. Saturday, and backup generators supplied power to essential buildings on campus.

While the university and Edison made efforts to avoid major disruptions to the campus community, a failure of a backup generator Saturday evening caused several services to go offline, including BroncoDirect, email, Blackboard and university web pages. The data services were restored about 4 a.m. on Sunday.
