Renowned musical artists will perform both new and classical compositions next month at the Winter 2013 Shpachenko & Friends Chamber Music Festival.

The festival begins 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 8 with a concert at the Music Recital Hall. It will continue on Monday, Feb. 11 and Friday, Feb. 15 with master piano classes at the recital hall.

"The festival presents a diverse, interesting and unique program performed by world-class artists," says festival founder and Associate Professor Nadia Shpachenko-Gottesman, "and I can't wait to share it with Cal Poly Pomona and the local community."

The guest artists include cellist Marek Szpakiewicz, who teaches at Azusa Pacific University; violinist Maia Jasper of the Colburn School of Music in Los Angeles; and pianist/harpsichordist Genevieve Feiwen Lee of Pomona College.

Jasper, Szpakiewicz, and Shpachenko will perform piano trios by Antonín Dvořák and Dmitri Shostakovich. Shpachenko and Lee will perform "Airdancing" an original work for piano, toy piano, and electronics by Tom Flaherty and Shpachenko will perform the world premiere of "Finger Songs for Solo Piano" by Peter Yates.

Lee and fellow pianist Lei Weng of the University of Northern Colorado will lead the piano master classes on Monday and Friday, respectively. The Monday class will be held from noon to 2 p.m., while the Friday class will be held from noon to 2:30 p.m.

Tickets for the concert are $15 for general admission and $10 for students. They are available for purchase online at https://csupomona.tix.com, or at the Music Box Office, Building 24, Room 188, daily from noon to 1 p.m. or one hour before show time.

The piano master classes are free and open to the public.
