The Dr. Cheryl Wyrick Breakout Room is an inviting space in the College of Business Administration's classroom building. It's a place where students can study, work on team projects and enjoy a quiet, focused atmosphere, as well as a view of the surrounding grounds.

They can thank the room's namesake, Cheryl Wyrick, associate dean of the College of Business Administration, who sponsored the room with a $10,000 gift and handpicked it because of the view.

Wyrick has long supported programs, such as Renaissance Scholars, and most recently the College of Business Administration's expansion.

"I've been at Cal Poly Pomona since 1986, and I enjoy being on campus," she says. "It does make me feel good to know that somewhere, somehow, what I've given is going to positively affect someone."

Wyrick says giving is something her family instilled in her when she was young.

"There's always going to be people who are less fortunate, or their circumstances are such that they need help, and if you're in the position to help, you should do that," she says.

Wyrick enjoys donating whenever a need arises, but she recognizes that there are many ongoing causes to support on campus and several ways to give.

"I think for a lot of people, having something that comes out of your paycheck on a regular basis is a really good way to go because then you don't miss it."

Wyrick is not shy about her enthusiasm for supporting the university, and by giving she can set an example for stewardship.

"You have the satisfaction of knowing that you're making a difference, helping to make the campus a better place and helping students in need," she says. "It's just a good thing to do."

Faculty, staff and administrators are significant stakeholders in any effort to advance the university, which is why Cal Poly Pomona has launched a campaign to encourage and recognize their giving.
