The Cal Poly Pomona art galleries are showing a new exhibit by a Korean-born, L.A.-based artist who repurposes cast-off materials to create monumental, humorous and thought-provoking kinetic sculpture.

The exhibit, "David Jang: Prequel to 2018," Sept. 21 through Oct. 29, with an opening reception on Sat., Sept. 26, 4-7 p.m., at the Donald B. Huntley Gallery.

Art critic Peter Frank calls Jang's work "machines that are at once hilarious, frightening, and charming."

Jang's 2012 work Replicate Substance, made of aluminum lamp shields and steel, is exhibited in the Kellogg University Art Gallery Sculpture Garden (north end of Building 3A). The main exhibit, of eight imaginative works using materials ranging from potato chip bags to clock parts, is located across the way at the Don B. Huntley Gallery (in the University Library).

Jang's solo and group exhibitions include international art fairs such as Houston Fine Art Fair, Art Toronto, AAF New York, AAF Amsterdam and Los Angeles Art Show as well as Laguna Art Museum and MOCA Los Angeles.

The Kellogg University Art Gallery (north end of Building 35A, Pomona) is open Mondays and Tuesdays, 4-8 p.m.; and Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday 12-4 p.m. The Don B.
