Starting and running a small business is a labor of love, but it's also late nights, headaches, loads of confusing paperwork, and navigating maze-like bureaucracies.
Owners of small businesses looking for relief will find some at Cal Poly Pomona on March 16 when the California Board of Equalization, which collects taxes for the state, holds a free business resource seminar and expo on campus.
"The College of Business Administration is proud to partner with the Board of Equalization to support our communities with initiatives like this," says Cheryl Wyrick, interim dean of the College of Business Administration. "This event will provide valuable resources to the small business owners who are a pivotal part of our local economy."
The event will cover topics including:
- Simplifying sales and use tax
- Property and business taxes
- Recordkeeping for small businesses
- Doing business with the state of California
- Tips for business success
- Social media strategy
- Employee vs. independent contractor classifications
- Forms of ownership
- Access to capital
The event will be attended by representatives from the Board of Equalization including member Jerome Horton, Assemblyman Freddie Rodriguez (D-Pomona), Congresswoman Norma Torres (D-Pomona), L.A. County Supervisor Hilda Solis, L.A. County Assessor Jeffrey Prang, officials from the city of Pomona, the Pomona Chamber of Commerce and the Small Business Development Center.
Registration for this free event is recommended. Register at www.boe.ca.gov/seminars or by calling 888-847-9652.
The seminar and expo will be held on the Cal Poly Pomona campus in the Ursa Major Suite of the Bronco Student Center. It begins at 8:15 a.m. (check-in at 8 a.m.) and ends at 12:30 p.m. Parking will be available in Lot C for $7.
Cal Poly Pomona is located at 3801 W. Temple Ave. Pomona, CA 91768. For a map of this campus, click here.
