The Cal Poly Pomona Philharmonic Orchestra will present "Festival of the Animals" Saturday, May 21.

The Cal Poly Pomona Philharmonic Orchestra will present "Festival of the Animals," a concert that will also include pre-concert activities for the entire family.

The concert begins at 1 p.m., with the orchestra playing Camille Saint- Saëns's "Carnival of the Animals" and Sergei Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf."

"The Festival of Animals is an event we are presenting for the whole Pomona community, says Professor Janine Riveire, who directs the Philharmonic Orchestra. "Families are invited to celebrate the wonderful way that music tells us about our world: it can tell stories and make us laugh or cry, and it brings us together."

Both "Carnival of the Animals" and Peter and the Wolf" were written for children, she adds.

"This event is also special because there will be fun activities for children before the concert: Danny's Farm petting zoo, an instrument petting zoo, an art station to make animal puppets, and the opportunity to play party games. Bring a picnic or snacks and enjoy the campus."

The activities and concerts are at the Music Recital Hall. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. They can be purchased online at csupomona.tix.com, at the Music Box Office, Building 24, room 188, weekdays from noon to 1 p.m., or at the event.
