Spring Music Concert Series Features Musical Comedy, Mariachi

The music department's spring concert series kicks off May 12.

From a multiple Grammy nominated pianist to performances featuring the talent of students and faculty, Cal Poly Pomona's music department offers events this spring that feature a wide range of musical variety.

The event kicking off the series is "The Addams Family," a musical comedy that is runs Thursday, May 12 through Saturday, May 14. Another performance is the Songwriter Showcase on Thursday May 19 and Friday, May 20, which will feature rock, hip-hop, and pop songs performed by students. The Philharmonic Orchestra perform two pieces including "Festival of Animals" and "Peter the Wolf" on Saturday, May 21 at 1 p.m. The festival also will feature Danny's Farm petting zoo and other children's activities.

Another notable performer is Professor Nadia Shpachenko, a Grammy-nominated pianist. The distinguished musician will perform a solo recital titled "Poetry of Places" on Monday, May 23. The university's new Mariachi ensemble Mariachi Los Broncos de Pomona also will be performing numerous classics on Tuesday, May 31.

All performances are in the Music Recital Hall at 8 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Tickets for all evening events can be purchased online at www.csupomona.tix.com or at the Music Box Office in Building 24, room 188, Monday through Friday from noon to 1 p.m. and one hour before show time.
