The Cal Poly Pomona community will explore the theme "Uncharted Territory" at TedxCPP 2017 on Thursday, April 27, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the University Theater.

In a Ted Talks-style format of short talks, speakers will discuss new discoveries, taking risks and breaking ground with the goal of inspiring deep thought and sparking stimulating conversation and connection.

The topics include:

• "The Power of Yes," Deborah Castleman (electrical and electronic engineering, '81), deputy secretary of defense for command and control communications in the first President Bill Clinton administration
• "Getting to the Roots of STEM Education," entrepreneurs Melissa & Lavanya Jawharlal
• "How to Put the Fine in Fast Casual," Chef Mark Peel
• "What Death Can Teach Us about Happiness," Ash Sobhe, CEO of R6S
• "Homeless to Hopeful: Chasing Down a Dream," Mich Hamlin (kinesiology, '16), a doctoral student at USC.
• "Exploring Contaminated Landscapes: How Radiation Changes a Territory," Professor Andrea Bonisoli Alquati
• "A Hot Approach: Making the Atmosphere a Carbon Source for Industries," Mike Woelk (B.S. in microbiology '12), co-founder & CEO of Corigin Solutions, LLC
• "From Tijuana to East L.A. to Academia: Life Lessons from a Scholar," Professor Alvaro Huerta
• "Misconceptions of Greek Life and Leveraging your College Network," Kamal Andrawis (industrial engineering '16), Northrup Grummand
• "Why We Need to Become an Interplanetary Species," Pauline Tasci, a third-year aerospace engineering major, currently working on Dragon propulsion at SpaceX.
