CPP Celebrates Seventh Annual National Transfer Student Week

Cal Poly Pomona is celebrating its seventh annual National Transfer Student Week from Oct. 16-19 with a series of events and activities honoring CPP's transfer students. The annual celebration will highlight the contributions and achievements of transfer students while emphasizing resources and supportive workshops for the transfer student community.

National Transfer Student Week is a nationwide initiative designed to recognize and celebrate transfer students' achievements in higher education. At Cal Poly Pomona, this week-long celebration will be packed with exciting events, workshops, and opportunities for students to connect and engage with their peers and university resources. The events are hosted by Associated Students, Inc. (ASI) and the PolyTransfer program.

Senior Coordinator of Transfer and Early Engagement, Samuel Nieto, said that the PolyTransfer team is excited to continue its partnerships with ASI and other programs and offices on campus that collectively work to highlight the success of transfer students.

"National Transfer Student Week allows us to continue being a 'transfer-receptive' campus and serves as a platform to showcase the resilience, determination, and diverse backgrounds that transfer students bring to our campus," Nieto said. "We believe in acknowledging their journeys, their contributions, and their unique experiences by providing engaging workshops and events for transfer students during this week."

PolyTransfer peer mentor and fourth-year chemistry student, George Hernandez, shared that his journey as a transfer student at Cal Poly Pomona has been profoundly transformative. He attributes this experience to the resources and guidance provided by the PolyTransfer program, as well as the support from a peer mentor. Thanks to these resources, Hernandez said he has developed a strong sense of connection and deep understanding of the campus and its offerings.

As the upcoming transfer celebration approaches, Hernandez offers valuable advice to fellow transfer students: take advantage of on campus programs and events to be more involved and feel a personal connection to the campus community.

"Attending National Transfer Student Week events is a great way to connect with other transfer students while also giving you a chance to take your mind off of your classes for a moment-not to mention there's always a ton of free food and goodies," Hernandez said.
