Career Readiness Conference Prepares Students for Job Recruitment
Make life-long connections with alumni who have been in your shoes.
The Career Readiness Conference is an opportunity for students and alumni to network and create meaningful bonds in support of student success. The conference will take place at the Bronco Student Center on Friday, Sept. 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will include four breakout sessions with two to three tracks for students to choose from.
“It's important to make sure that we're connecting students with alumni so that they can start to develop their network if they don't already have one and start exploring opportunities that exist once they graduate,” said Tracee Passeggi, Career Center director.
Any student can register for the conference, which is free. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
The conference was made possible by a $20,000 grant from the CSU Alumni Council to the Office of Alumni and External Relations and the Career Center with the goal of ensuring that students have the opportunity to focus on career readiness.
“The Office of Alumni and External Relations works closely with the Career Center on events throughout the year to provide our students with opportunities to connect with alumni. I saw this conference as a great opportunity to partner with the Career Center and engage around career readiness a week before the career fair,” said Melissa Riordan, Alumni and External Relations executive director. “Our thought process was to get our students ready for the career fair and to offer opportunities for them to feel prepared and comfortable to go out and meet our recruiters.”
The Career Fair, which takes place on Thursday, Sept. 19 and Friday, Sept. 20, connects students and alumni with employers.
During the Career Readiness Conference, students will be provided with tracks most suited for their career stage, ranging from emerging, intermediate, to advanced courses. For job-specific help, alumni and career center staff will demonstrate how to use artificial intelligence (Al) to build resumes and discuss cover letters and the job search process. Students will familiarize themselves with platforms like LinkedIn and have the opportunity to take professional headshots.
The conference will also feature Madeline Mann, the founder of Self Made Millennial, who is well known for turning job seekers into job shoppers. Mann, the keynote speaker for the event, has been featured in media outlets like the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, and Business Insider.
