Center for Community Engagement Awarded Grant to Advance Domestic Violence Awareness
The Center for Community Engagement (CCE) has been awarded a grant through the Western Region Continuums of Service Consortium (WRCOS) to launch Awareness in Action: Bright Sky on Campus, an initiative designed to raise awareness of domestic violence and connect students with prevention resources.
Through this effort, the CCE is partnering with on-campus groups including Survivor Advocacy Services, the Office of Equity and Compliance, the Community Innovation Hub and student leaders from Kappa Delta Sorority to bring additional expertise, survivor centered resources, and community support.
“By partnering with Survivor Advocacy Services and the Office of Equity and Compliance, we aim to raise awareness about domestic violence and connect students with resources such as the Bright Sky app,” said Ericka Olguin, director of the Center for Community Engagement. “Starting Oct. 1, our weekly activities will foster dialogue, support, and a stronger culture of care on campus.”
The $4,000 award is part of a larger $150,000 grant distributed across WRCOS campuses through LEAD California, funded by the Vodafone Americas Foundation. The initiative centers on Bright Sky, a mobile application that provides tools to identify warning signs of abuse, assess the safety of relationships, and connects users to local support services.
With this grant, Cal Poly Pomona will join more than 20,000 students across four states in advancing domestic violence prevention during Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October and beyond.
The Center for Community Engagement will host events beginning in October to engage the campus community, honor survivors, and promote the Bright Sky app as an accessible, tech-based resource.
