Broncos Come Together to Help Community during Holidays
As the holidays season begins, Cal Poly Pomona departments and organizations have organized food, toy and relief fund drives to help those in need on campus and in the community.
Toy Drive – Nov. 21 to Dec. 3
Help bring holiday cheer to children by donating new, unwrapped toys for children ages 0-14. Toys can be brought to the Winter Festival on Dec. 3, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Manor House. Or, they can be dropped off at the SSB and Building 8, room 119. The drive is organized by Staff Council. All collected toys will be distributed by the Pomona Police Department, Santa Cops.
Food Collection Drives
Poly Pantry – Year-Round
Many students are facing food insecurity and need financial assistance. The Care Center and Poly Pantry provide food assistance, emergency grants and other essential resources. Donors can help extend this care by donating non-perishable food items and/or hygiene donations such as lotion, shampoo, conditioner, mouthwash, menstrual products and similar essentials. Items can be taken to the Care Center, Building 97, room 106, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Poly Pantry and the Care Center also accept financial contributions.
Thanksgiving Meal Donations
CPP Enterprises offers the opportunity to donate to a full holiday meal package that feeds 6 to 8 people. Or, you can contribute toward a complete meal. Donations can be made through the Dining Services Holiday Meal order form. CPP Enterprises is also donating two meals through the Care Center for every dinner package purchased.
Bronco Employee Relief Fund – Year-Round
Cal Poly Pomona’s Bronco Employee Relief Fund helps employees facing unforeseen emergencies or crisis with financial assistance. Donations can be made year-round to uplift Broncos in need.
CPP Community Innovation Hub – Through Nov. 21
The Community Innovation Hub in downtown Pomona, in partnership with the Lopez Urban Farm, Hope Esperanza and the Pomona Community Fridge, is hosting a food drive uniting Cal Poly Pomona and the local Pomona community. All donations will go to support families in need. Donations can be brought to the iLab (Building 1, room 113), the Maker Studio (University Library, 2nd floor) or the Pomona Public Library.
Earlier this month, the Office of the President and the Natives Aiming To Inspire Values in Education (NATIVE) Pipeline hosted a collection of personal care items and socks for Native American students at Sherman Indian High School, a federal boarding school in Riverside. By the end of the annual Harvest Dinner on Nov. 18, Broncos and the community had collected more than five large tubs of shampoo, conditioner, lotion, toothpaste, deodorant, lip care, hair ties and brushes, blankets and socks.
If you are or know a student in need of support, whether assistance with basic needs, advocacy, financial or other resources, visit the Cal Poly Pomona Care Center to learn about the variety of resources available.
