The movie screening is on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall (Building 24). The Q&A with director Tina Mabry is the following evening on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 6 p.m. in Ursa Minor, BSC.
The movie, which is currently streaming on Hulu, follows lifelong best friends as they navigate the joys and sorrows of life, marriage and children, happiness and blues, love and loss, and new shades of heartbreak and illness. Based on the New York Times best-selling novel by Edward Kelsey Moore, the story touches on themes of friendship, resilience and Black womanhood.
At the Q&A, director Tina Mabry will share a unique behind-the-scenes look at the creative process, storytelling choices and cultural significance of the film. She’ll also engage the CPP community on topics such as filmmaking, representation and impact.
“This screening and director Q&A will give our campus community a meaningful opportunity to engage with powerful storytelling through friendship, resilience and love,” said Derick Prince, senior coordinator for Student Success & Connections. “By bringing this film and conversation to campus during Black History Month, we hope to spark reflection, dialogue and a deeper appreciation for the cultural impact of film. Attendees will not only enjoy a compelling screening but also gain rare insight into the creative process and cultural significance of the story directly from the film’s director.”
