Cal Poly Pomona to Participate in NASPA Career Advising Community of Practice
Cal Poly Pomona has been selected to participate in an “On-Ramps to Holistic Career Advising for Student Success” collaborative community of practice, led by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Advising Success Network and funded by Lumina Foundation.
Through this opportunity, Cal Poly Pomona will work with seven other institutions from across the nation and national experts, further enhancing the partnership between academic and career advising. The community of practice offers participating institutions dedicated time to learn from each other, access to national networks, conference presentation opportunities, expert guidance on evidence-based career advising strategies, and financial support.
CPP’s academic advising model uses data-informed, milestone-based campaigns to provide timely guidance aligned with students’ academic progress. The Career Center’s Career Markers framework complements this work by guiding students from exploration to engagement to career preparation. The NASPA opportunity will allow the teams to align and embed clear career touchpoints at key advising milestones, helping students to move forward with clarity and confidence from the day they step onto campus.
“This opportunity allows us to be more intentional about how we connect academic advising and career development so students experience it as one cohesive journey, not separate services,” said Tracee Passeggi, director of the Career Center. “It also gives us the ability to scale this work by more closely aligning career development within existing advising efforts, so students are supported in making meaningful connections to their future at every stage.”
Cecilia Santiago-González, associate vice president for student success, said that the focus of the Office of Student Success and Career Center partnership is to make it clearer for students to know what to do and when, sync career development with advising milestones, and strengthen assessment efforts.
“This work aligns closely with the CSU Student Success Framework and supports a more connected, proactive, and equity-focused approach to student success,” Cecilia Santiago-González said. “We are very glad to be part of this NASPA community of practice to enhance our work.”
The university will participate in a virtual kick-off in May 2026, and an in-person convening at the 2026 NASPA Conferences on Student Success in June.
