PolyTeach 2020: Do the Flip! Featuring Kevin Kelly


Kevin Kelly

Kevin Kelly supports educational institutions in their efforts to adopt technology, enhance distance education, and improve program development and evaluation, with an emphasis on universal design, equity, and inclusion. He is the former Executive Director of Teaching & Learning for the Association of College & University Educators (ACUE), Director of Wiley Learning Institute, and Manager of Academic Technology at SF State. Dr. Kelly completed his Ed.D. in Leadership Studies at the University of San Francisco and is a prolific speaker and author. Kevin will address considerations to ensure that flipping is an inclusive pedagogy rather than a strategy that perpetuates imbalances.

Janine Kremling  Uri Treisman

Janine is an associate professor of criminal justice at CSU San Bernardino, where she teaches and researches in the areas of capital punishment, drug use, and racial discrimination.

Janine is co-editor of "Why Students Resist Learning" (Stylus, 2016).

Uri is University Distinguished Teaching Professor, professor of mathematics, and professor of public affairs at The University of Texas at Austin.

Uri earned a B.S. in Mathematics from UCLA, after studying horticulture and mathematics in Los Angeles-area community colleges. He earned an interdisciplinary Ph.D. from UC Berkeley, where he studied both mathematics and education.

In all his work, Uri is an advocate for equity and excellence in education for all students. In 1992, he was named a MacArthur Foundation Fellow for his work in transforming mathematics education for underrepresented minority students.

PolyTeach 2016: Featuring Dr. Diana G. Oblinger


Diana G. Oblinger

Dr. Diana G. Oblinger is President Emeritus of EDUCAUSE, a nonprofit association of 2,400 colleges, universities, and education organizations whose mission is to advance higher education through the use of information technology. She served as President and CEO from 2008 – 2015, and as Vice President from 2004-2008. Previously, Oblinger held positions in academia and business: Vice President for Information Resources and the Chief Information Officer for the University of North Carolina system, Executive Director of Higher Education for Microsoft, and IBM Director of the Institute for Academic Technology. She was on the faculty at the University of Missouri-Columbia and at Michigan State University.

Oblinger is known for her leadership in teaching and learning. She founded the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative, and, in collaboration with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, she led the creation of the Next Generation Learning Challenges, a $65M program focused on improving college readiness and completion through information technologies.

Oblinger has served on a variety of boards including the National Science Foundation’s Advisory Committee on Cyberinfrastructure, the board of directors of ACT, the American Council on Education (ACE) board, and chair of the Washington Higher Education Secretariat. She is currently on the Board of Directors of Ellucian.

Oblinger is a frequent keynote speaker as well as the author or of co-author multiple books. She has received outstanding teaching and research awards, has served as a Distinguished Visiting Fellow in Learning Technologies at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and holds three honorary degrees. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, and Sigma Xi.

Lynda Weinman is the co-founder and executive chair of lynda.com, a leading company in online education. Through a comprehensive library of instructional videos taught by industry experts, lynda.com teaches technology, design, and business skills to millions of individual, corporate, academic, and government subscribers.

Lynda is a self-taught computer expert, author, educator, and entrepreneur. A web graphics and design veteran and author of dozens of best-selling books, Lynda wrote the very first industry book on web design, Designing Web Graphics, in 1995. Before launching lynda.com, she was a faculty member at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, and worked as an animator and motion graphics director in the special effects film industry. She also taught at UCLA Extension, American Film Institute, and San Francisco State University’s Multimedia Studies Program.

Lynda's husband Bruce Heavin is the co-founder and chief creative officer of lynda.com. He oversees the company’s visual branding and style. A graduate of Art Center College of Design, Bruce is an accomplished illustrator and designer who has created graphics for DreamWorks SKG Interactive and illustrations for Adobe, MSNBC, E! Entertainment Television, and numerous national publications.

Dr. Melton serves as the chief system level administrator to oversee the University of Tennessee system mission and initiatives for the Strategic Mobilization Planning and Business Models, Mobilization Quality Assurances, and Faculty and Student Use of Mobile Devices. She has published and presented around the nation the impact and value of mobilization for education and the workforce and has acquired a new distinction as an “ Appologist”, due to her study of the pedagogy and best teaching practices with mobilization, quality standards for the utilization of mobile apps, and for her creation of the Mobile App Education and Workforce Resource Center (50,000+ Apps that have been aligned with over ninety-five subject areas from PreK to Ph.D.). Dr. Melton serves on the Sloan-C Board of Directors, WCET Executive Board, Tennessee MERLOT Project Director, IMS Global Learning Solution Higher Education Co-Chair, and Co-Chair Global Educational Center.

Dr. Costa focuses on teacher and faculty training, research, and project design and implementation of the use of technology to improve teaching and learning. She consults for NASA and Intel Education, and is Google Apps Education Qualified. She has published in the International Journal of University Teaching and Faculty Development, Journal of Curriculum Studies, and Journal of College Science Teaching, among other journals, and has published a co-authored book, Secrets to Success for Science Teachers.

Dr. Dziuban has been a faculty member at the University of Central Florida since 1970, teaching research design and statistics. In 2000, Chuck was named UCF’s first ever Pegasus Professor for extraordinary research, teaching, and service and in 2005 received the honor of Professor Emeritus. In 2005, he received the Sloan Consortium award for Most Outstanding Achievement in Online Learning by an Individual. In 2007 he was appointed to the National Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Literacy Policy Council. In 2012 the University of Central Florida Initiated the Chuck Dziuban Online Teaching Award for faculty members.

Ms. Thille’s focus of research and development is in applying results from the learning sciences to the design, implementation and evaluation of open web-based learning environments. Candace currently serves as a redesign scholar for the National Center for Academic Transformation; as a Fellow of International Society for Design and Development in Education; and on the Global Executive Advisory board for Hewlett Packard’s Catalyst Initiative. She served on a working group at the U.S. Department of Education to write the National Education Technology Plan for the Obama Administration and on a working group for the U.S. Department of Education to evaluate of the effectiveness of online courses for secondary students.
