Cal Poly Pomona's recent notification of reaffirmation of accreditation from WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC) is a strong vote of confidence in the university's strategic plan and commitment to continual improvement.

The university received reaffirmation of accreditation for a period of 10 years, the maximum length of time offered by WSCUC.

"This reaffirmation is validation of the work that our community has been engaged in for a long time - strategic planning, converting to semesters, improving assessment and program review processes," said Laura Massa, associate vice president for academic programs and the campus' accreditation liaison officer. "The WSCUC team recognized that we've engaged in significant and ongoing work to continually improve our university."

The WSCUC notification signals trust that the university will continue its efforts and move forward with added momentum.

"They fully expect us to grow, improve and continue to engage in our evidence-informed, mission-driven work," Massa said.

Provost Sylvia A. Alva added that faculty and staff were critical in demonstrating the campus' deep committed to academic quality and educational effectiveness. In its report, the WSCUC visiting team acknowledged broad and consistent faculty engagement in these areas. The report also commented that institutional reflection and planning are a "signature element of CPP."

"I am proud that the WSCUC team recognized the intentionality and engagement of our faculty in program design and review to benefit students," Alva said. "Through the many interviews, forums and reports, they saw that we are a broadly engaged community that is working hard to be the best possible university to serve our students."

The next reaffirmation accreditation visit is scheduled for fall 2029, according to the letter sent to President Soraya M. Coley.

In spring 2023, the university will host a special visit by WSCUC to demonstrate progress made on the commission's recommendations, including work on diversity and inclusion and personnel hiring. The mid-cycle review is scheduled to begin in May 2025.
