Engineering Professor Vilupanur Ravi Receives ASM International Distinguished Teacher Award
Vilupanur Ravi, professor of chemical and materials engineering, has received the Albert Easton White Distinguished Teacher Award from ASM International, recognizing his decades of teaching, mentoring and contributions to materials science and engineering.
ASM International is a leading global professional association for materials scientists and engineers, and the award places Ravi among a distinguished group of materials science educators honored by organization.
Ravi, a Fellow of ASM International, was honored for his sustained dedication to teaching and mentoring students, along with pioneering contributions to high-temperature materials, protective coatings and corrosion. ASM also recognized his service to materials professional societies.
"I truly appreciate being selected for this prestigious award, and I sincerely thank my nominators and supporters,” said Ravi.
Established in 1960, the award recognizes educators for unusually long and devoted service to teaching, significant accomplishments in materials science and engineering, and an exceptional ability to inspire students. The award honors Albert Easton White, a founding member of ASM International who served as the society's president in 1921.
Ravi gives credit to those who have supported and mentored him, as well as his students, for helping to make the award possible.
“My father’s lived example and the inspiration from my teachers led me to become a professor in this exciting field,” he said. “Powered by the affection and energy of my students, and with steadfast support from my family and colleagues, I feel fortunate and privileged to be a part of this profession."
