CPP Scholarship Season Launches with Goal to Award Millions
’Tis the season for CPP students to complete their application for scholarships, now through March 2. “Scholarship Season” is an annual campus event aligned with the calendar for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the California Dream Act Application (CADAA). The university is awarding hundreds of scholarships and millions of dollars.
“Scholarships are a powerful resource,” says Senior Scholarship Program Lead Michelle Simpson. “They provide additional support to students beyond grants and loans that do not have to be repaid. They offer meaningful recognition that students can highlight on résumés and provide encouragement as they work toward completing their degree.”
Julie Lapointe, a visual communication design student who will graduate in the spring, can attest.
“I received a scholarship two years in a row, which not only boosted my confidence, but also affirmed that the path I’ve chosen is the right one for me,” she said. “The financial support was so beneficial to my studies and artmaking. It allowed me to experiment with painting and more traditional artwork that I may not have done otherwise.”
This year, the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships has made enhancements to the Bronco Scholarship Portal, providing students a more seamless and tailor-made experience, according to Simpson. The platform features improved functionality and keyword search capabilities, along with a simplified application process. Document upload requirements have been streamlined, enabling students to upload supporting materials once for use across multiple applications rather than submitting the same documents repeatedly,” she said. While uploading a resume or CV and letters of recommendation are optional, they increase the chances of receiving scholarships.
Lapointe admits that she never expected to be chosen, but figured it was free to apply so she may as well take a chance.
“Both years I was shocked to hear my name announced as a recipient at the awards ceremony,” she said. “I was so grateful.”
Her advice to other students?
“Just apply because it’s good to put yourself out there,’ she said. “Also, writing essays about what you feel passionate about is helpful. It prepares you for your career. Besides, you have nothing to lose.”
Simpson agreed that students have only opportunities to gain.
“The scholarship application process is designed to be accessible, with many opportunities open to all students. While GPA requirements exist, a 4.0 GPA is not required to be considered for a scholarship,” Simpson said. “Don’t miss out on scholarship opportunities made possible by our generous donors. Receiving a scholarship can make a significant difference, especially during challenging times, by helping reduce educational expenses and recognizing your achievements.”
Students are encouraged to log in to the Bronco Scholarship Portal to complete their application before the March 2 deadline.
