More About Planner Accessibility

We are aware that CPP Connect’s Planner has limitations when using assistive technology and keyboard only. Assistive technology users may not be able to effectively use the Planner, as the menu items located within the menu of courses will not be read correctly. Other accessibility limitations may include popup or information items not displaying correctly and using keyboard arrow keys instead of using the tab key for navigation. For the best possible experience with assistive technology tools the product’s vendor suggests the use of the Mozilla Firefox browser. For accommodations or alternative access to the information in the Planner, contact the CPP Connect team at cppconnect@cpp.edu.

Summary of Accessibility Issues, Barriers and Equally Effective Alternative Access Plans
Accessibility Issue Barrier Equally Effective Alternative Access Plan (EEAAP)
Buttons are announced as “buttons” by assistive technology. – Level 1 A screen reader user will not understand the function of the buttons when navigated onto. This will keep a user from being able to understand that the buttons change the date for the calendar. To access the calendar, the user of assistive technology can go to PeopleSoft using a direct link to a separate window.
Headers are being skipped going from a header level 2 to a header level 5. -- Level 3 With headings out of order, users who navigate by headers only may have confusion when navigating as a sequential order of headings is expected.  In the Planner section, inform users that navigating by headings will not provide an accessible experience and to instead navigate using the arrow keys.
Elements around calendar are not navigable by keyboard or function as intended using keyboard. - Level 1 The link “view” details which gives more information about the notification is not navigable by a keyboard. Also, the buttons that change the calendar date do not function when selecting. To access the calendar, the user of assistive technology can go to PeopleSoft using a direct link to a separate window.
The calendar is not navigable for a keyboard user. – Level 1      A keyboard user will not be able to select the interactive elements found on the calendar that a mouse user can select. The issue keeps keyboard users from seeing the popup that describes the classes. To access the calendar, the user of assistive technology can go to PeopleSoft using a direct link to a separate window.
